Lanai, Hawaii | The Weather in Lanai
Lanai is a world of wonder and fantasy, truly one of the most unique places on earth. Why else would a king choose it for his summer home? Lanai is the smallest of Hawaii’s inhabited islands. Once the home of a thriving pineapple plantation, Lanai has reinvented itself as an alluring resort destination offering world-class golf courses and award-winning accommodations. Lanai use to be known as: "The Pineapple Isle" but since very little pineapple is grown on the island, is is now frequently called the "Secluded Island". This island paradise is only 18 miles wide and 13 miles long and yet encompasses every imaginable service in order to serve its guests in incomparable style ....

Lanai's weather patterns, when you take into consideration its size, are quite diverse - offering cool forested areas through to gleaming sun drenched coast lines. Water temperature at Lanai's beaches ranges between mid 70's F (24 C) in winter to 80 F (27 C) in summer. Lanai's waters are known for gentle surf. Unlike other islands, Lanai doesn't have towering mountains. There are some areas of higher elevation, such as Lanai City, where summer temperatures average 78-85 F and winter temperatures 72-76 F. There is no rain season in Hawaii. Lanai is one of the driest islands in the Hawaiian chain and receives very little rain just like your other favorite the Tenerife holidays destination just off the main African continent. The rainfall slightly increases during winter months with periodic rain showers. In Lanai City, rainfall measures only 3-6" per month in winter and 1-3" in summer. Beach areas are even drier, and you can count on a lot of sun during your visit, no matter what time of the year you choose |
The warmest month of the year in Lanai is September while the coldest month is February. Temperature variations between night and day are minimal. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. There are many other activities to do on Lanai such as horseback riding, sporting clays and archery, hunting for axis deer and muflon sheep, deep sea fishing, sea kayaking, mountain biking, playing tennis, croquet, or lawn bowling, participate in the Lanai Art Program, or one of the favorites for many is to just do nothing. The pristine island of Lanai is the place to visit |
Once known as the Pineapple Island, when the Hawaiian Pineapple Company (later Dole) operated pineapple plantations on almost 20,000 acres, Lanai is now dubbed Hawaii's Most Secluded Island. In the 1980's, entrepreneur David Murdock transformed the failing agricultural operations into a world class travel destination, while maintaining the majority of the islands untouched landscape, historical artifacts and overall mood of mystery. In ancient times, Lanai Hawaii was thought to be overrun with evil spirits. A young man named Kaululaau, the son of a Maui chief, was exiled to Lanai to explore the island and deem it free of such spirits to make Lanai suitable for settling. Explore the Garden of the Gods, an intriguing rock formation reminiscent of a lunar landscape. Hunt for treasures or examine historic petroglyphs at Shipwreck Beach. Admire local artwork at the Lanai Arts & Culture Center, a prominent showcase for community arts. You can even "lock and load" at Lanai Pine Sporting Clays, the only resort sporting clays course in the state. |
